South Mainland Leisure Centre

The most southerly of a remarkable network of leisure centres operated by the Shetland Recreational Trust, South Mainland Leisure Centre is located at Stove, within the community of Sandwick. Built in 1993, it includes a 16.7m (55 foot) four-lane swimming pool with a bubble pool, toddler's pool and steam room. The centre was built with funds from the Shetland Charitable Trust that was responsible for distributing the so-called Disturbance Receipts, intended to compensate the people of Shetland for siting the oil terminal at Sullom Voe. Sandwick Junior High School lies adjacent.
