Burra Bridge

A single-carriageway bridge which connects the islands of West Burra and Trondra, the Burra Bridge crosses the Lang Sound 2½ miles (4 km) south southwest of Scalloway. Along with the Trondra Bridge, this was constructed in an attempt to halt the depopulation of the Burras, which proved successful. It was opened on 18th October 1971 by George Younger (1931 - 2003), then Under Secretary of State for Scotland.
