Rova Head Lighthouse

A modern automatic lighthouse, comprising a white aluminium-clad metal framework tower on Easter Rova Head on the east coast of the Shetland Mainland, Rova Head Lighthouse marks the northern entrance to Lerwick Harbour. The tower is 6.4m (21 feet) in height and was built in 2003 to replace an earlier cast iron lighthouse by noted engineers David A. Stevenson (1854 - 1938) and Charles Stevenson (1855 - 1950), which was established in 1904. The lighthouse is operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board and monitored continuously from their headquarters in Edinburgh.
