County Buildings

An unpretentious group of B-listed buildings located on a large site on the corner between King Erik Street and Market Street in Lerwick (Shetland), the County Buildings were built in 1875 in the Scots Baronial style by David Rhind (1808-83). The entrance-building has the appearance of a modest villa, in ashlar with crow-stepped gables. The complex houses the Sheriff Court, Sheriff Clerk's Office, Procurator Fiscal's Office and the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, with the two-storey former prison behind now the Shetland Area Office of the Northern Constabulary.
