Gutter's Hut

Gutter's Hut is a long brightly-painted corrugated-iron building which now forms part of the North Ness Business Park in Lerwick (Shetland). Built around 1900, the two-storey rectangular structure is the last surviving example of a fish processing building of which there were a number in Lerwick during the Herring Boom from the later 19th Century. An external timber walkway runs along the full length of the structure at first-floor level, accessed by stairways to the west and east. Category B-listed in 1996, Gutter's Hut has been sympathetically converted into four separate office suites with a total area of 195 sq. m (2099 sq. feet). It is connected to the Lerwick District Heating Scheme.
