Druids' Stone

(Druid Stone, The Giant's Tooth, The Stone of Tarbert, Carragh an Tairbeirt)

A roadside standing stone at Tarbert on the island of Gigha in the Inner Hebrides, the Druids' Stone (or Druid Stone, also known as The Giant's Tooth or The Stone of Tarbert, Gael: Carragh an Tairbeirt) stands 2.34m (7½ feet) in height and is located overlooking East Tarbert Bay, 2½ miles (4 km) north northeast of Ardminish. It takes the shape of a hand, although this is due to natural weathering rather than manufacture, and leans at a precipitous angle to the east. It has been suggested that it dates from the 1st century BC and may have been a lunar observatory.
