Wellington Church

A massive rectangular Classical construction in the Gilmorehill district of Glasgow, Wellington Church is situated on University Avenue opposite the University of Glasgow's main Gilbert Scott Building. The work of Thomas Lennox Watson and completed in 1884, the church features a grand Corinthian portico rising above steps which where modelled on University College in London. The interior is in Renaissance style, with fine plaster ceilings, and include an organ by the English builders Forster & Andrews. Built for the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland, it is now part of the Church of Scotland. It hosts religious and secular events in conjunction with the University of Glasgow, including concerts. There is a cafe in the crypt.
