The principal sports and leisure complex in the town of Ayr (South Ayrshire), the Citadel Leisure Centre is situated on South Harbour Street. It comprises three swimming pools, a multi-purpose sports hall, gymnasium and dance studio, squash courts, a sauna suite, aromatherapy steam room, plunge pool, jacuzzi and rest room, together with a meeting and conference room. The building was constructed as a swimming pool 1969-72 but later extended and opened as the Citadel Leisure Centre in 1997.
The sports hall extends to 34m by 27m (111 x 88 feet) and is used for badminton, basketball, football, hockey and netball, as well as providing space for conferences, trade events and concerts, with seating for up to 1000 people. The main swimming pool is 25m (27 yards) in length and includes six lanes. There is also a teaching pool, and a flexi pool with a moveable floor.
The centre provides an extensive fitness class programme.
