Radical Road

A popular path and trackway curving around the foot of Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh, the Radical Road provides excellent views over the city and beyond. It takes its name from the Radical Rising which took place across the Central Belt of Scotland in 1820. The road was built shortly afterwards by a group of poor weavers from the West of Scotland as a work-creation project at the suggestion of author Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832). The Radical Road bar and restaurant on Willowbrae Road to the east takes its name from the road.
