A suburban railway station on the eastern edge of Glasgow, Baillieston Station (Gael: Baile Bhàillidh) lies on the Whifflet Line, between Baillieston and Broomhouse, 5½ miles (9 km) east southeast of the city centre. This station was opened in 1866 by the Caledonian Railway, and is preceded by Bargeddie Railway Station, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the east northeast, and followed by Mount Vernon, a mile (1.5 km) to the west southwest. Operated by ScotRail, Baillieston is unstaffed and is used by 89,118 passengers per annum (2009-10).
