A suburban halt in Coatbridge (North Lanarkshire), Kirkwood Railway Station (referred to in Gaelic as Coille na Cille) lies on the Whifflet Line, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) north northwest of Old Monkland and a half-mile (1 km) north northeast of Kirkwood. This station was built in 1993, comprising two platforms on the re-opened Rutherglen and Coatbridge Railway, replacing the former station at Langloan, which lay 350m / 1150 feet to the east. Operated by ScotRail, Kirkwood Railway Station is unstaffed and was used by 140,572 passengers per annum (2009-10). It is preceded by Whifflet Railway Station, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the east, and followed by Bargeddie, a mile (1.5 km) to the west.
