Milliken Park Railway Station

(Pàirc Mhaolagain)

Milliken Park Railway Station (known in Gaelic as Pàirc Mhaolagain) is situated on the Ayrshire Coast Line, on the western edge of Johnstone and 1¼ miles (2 km) southeast of Kilbarchan in Renfrewshire. This station opened on the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway in 1840. However it closed in 1966, a victim of railway rationalisation, but a new station was built on the site in 1989. This comprises two platforms, a modern wheel-chair friendly overbridge with long approach ramps and simple passenger shelters. Now operated by ScotRail, Milliken Park Railway Station is unstaffed but has seen remarkable growth in passenger numbers, from 137,434 per annum (in 2009-10) to 241,398 in 2016-17. It is preceded by Howwood Railway Station, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the southwest, and followed by Johnstone, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the east northeast.
