Pollokshields East Railway Station

(Pollokshields an Ear)

A suburban railway station that represents the first station on the eastern arm of the Cathcart Circle Line, after Glasgow Central, Pollokshields East (known in Gaelic as Pollokshields an Ear) is located between Pollokshields and Govanhill in Glasgow City. It opened in 1894 on the Cathcart District Railway. The station has two platforms and a modern flat-roofed station building which replaced an earlier structure that was destroyed by fire in 1976. Pollokshields East Railway Station is now operated by ScotRail and staffed part-time. Passenger numbers have grown markedly from 254,408 (2009-10) to 425,492 (2016-17). It is preceded by Queen's Park Railway Station, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the south, and followed by Glasgow Central, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the north northeast.
