Portlethen Railway Station


(Port Leathain)

A popular commuter halt on the East Coast Main Line in S Aberdeenshire, Portlethen Railway Station (known in Gaelic as Port Leathain) is situated on the eastern edge of the substantial dormitory village of Portlethen, 6 miles (10 km) south of Aberdeen. This station opened in 1850, closed in 1956 but was re-opened on 17th May 1985. Operated by ScotRail, Portlethen Station is unstaffed, with a traditional overbridge linking the north- and southbound platforms and utilitarian passenger shelters. Local trains and services from Glasgow and Edinburgh stop here. Its usage has increased markedly over recent years; from 15,186 passengers in 2010 to 57,152 in 2015. Portlethen is preceded by Stonehaven, 7½ miles (12 km) to the south southwest, and followed by Aberdeen Railway Station, 5½ miles (9 km) to the north.
