Westerton Railway Station

(Am Baile Siar)

A railway station on the southern edge of East Dunbartonshire, Westerton (referred to as Am Baile Siar in Gaelic) is situated a half-mile (1 km) north northeast of Knightswood in Glasgow City and a mile (1.5 km) south southwest of Bearsden. This station opened on the Glasgow, Dumbarton & Helensburgh line in 1913 to serve the new Westerton Garden Suburb. It lies a short distance to the southeast of Milngavie Junction, which takes a branch northeast to Bearsden and Milngavie.

Now operated by ScotRail, Westerton Railway Station is staffed part-time and serves both the Argyle Line and North Clyde Line, with trains running from Helensburgh and Milngavie to Glasgow Queen Street, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley. It was used by 795,000 passengers in 2016, significantly greater than the 658,378 passengers who used the station in 2010.

It is preceded by Anniesland Railway Station, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the south southeast, and followed on the main-line by Drumchapel, a similar distance to the west, and Bearsden, a mile (1.5 km) to the north, on the Milngavie branch.
