An iconic modern three-storey building located on Stirling Street, to the north of Galashiels town centre, The Interchange opened in 2015, next to the new Galashiels Railway Station. It serves as the town's bus station, offering easy interchange with rail services, but incorporates a business centre with conference facilities. There is also tourist information and a cafe, together with showers, changing rooms and bike lockers to promote cycling. The building cost £5.2 million and was built by Edinburgh-based Morrison Construction for Scottish Borders Council, through their development partner Hub South East Scotland. It was part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Up to 3000 people per day use the facility to access bus and rail services, with almost 1400 bus departures weekly to Edinburgh, Carlisle and destinations across the Borders.
