Carron Harbour

(Starleyburn Boatyard)

A little tidal harbour on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, Carron Harbour (more recently known as Starleyburn Boatyard) is located a mile (1.5 km) west of Burntisland. Access is over the East Coast Main Line railway and the harbour comprises a pier, slipway and brick-built shed. It was built c.1808 by the Carron Iron Company to transport lime to their ironworks at Stenhousemuir which was brought from the nearby Newbigging quarry by a tramline. The harbour was most recently operated by Kinghorn Yacht Services as a boatyard to maintain small fishing and leisure craft. It was B-listed in 1995 owing to its historical interest but is now in a semi-derelict condition.
