Mousemill Bridge

An ancient and ruinous pack-horse bridge across the Mouse Water in South Lanarkshire, the Mousemill Bridge is located a half-mile (0.4 km) north northeast Kirkfieldbank and a half-mile (1 km) west northwest of the centre of Lanark. This single-arch structure dates from 1649 and is now B-listed. It replaced a wooden bridge at the same site which was first mentioned in 1587. It was abandoned except for pedestrians in the early 19th C. when a new bridge was constructed barely 45m / 150 feet downstream and has subsequently fallen into picturesque decay.
