Newcraighall Railway Station

A commuter station with a park-and-ride facility within the City of Edinburgh, Newcraighall Railway Station is located to the southwest of the village of Newcraighall, 4 miles (6.5 km) east southeast of the city centre. Known in Gaelic as Talla na Creige Nuadh, this station opened in 2002 as the eastern terminus of the Edinburgh Crossrail initiative, receiving trains from Fife and Western Scotland. Since 2015, it has been the third station on the Borders Railway, preceded by Brunstane, a half-mile (1 km) to the north northwest, and followed by Shawfair Railway Station is 1¼ miles (2 km) to the south. The line is still double-track at this point and the station has two platforms. Newcraighall is operated by ScotRail and unstaffed. The advent of the Borders Railway has seen passenger numbers grow to 234,770 per annum (2017).
