Amisfield Tower

Amisfield is a castle associated with the Charteris family, who owned the surrounding estates from the 12th C. Lying 5 miles (8 km) north of Dumfries, this square tower was built in 1600 and comprises four storeys plus an attic. Its is regarded as one of the most impressive and best preserved of the Borders towers.

The tower later passed to the Dalzeil family and 19th C. mansion lies nearby. Always well-maintained by its owners, the tower remains in use as a private residence.
