Rose Terrace

A fine single-sided parade of Georgian buildings lying to the west of the North Inch in Perth, Rose Terrace has been described as the "grandest palace-fronted terrace in Scotland, outside Edinburgh". Built 1800-07 in the Adam style, the terrace was named after the wife of Provost Thomas Hay Marshall, from whom he was soon divorced after she had an affair with Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin (1766 - 1841).

The centrepiece of the terrace is the Old Academy, the work of Robert Reid (1774 - 1856), with a grandiose statue of Britannia above. The south range was restored and converted to flats 1985-86, while the Old Academy was refurbished as office accommodation in the mid-1990s.
