Frances MacDonald


1873 - 1921

Artist and designer. Born in Glasgow, the sister of another artist Margaret MacDonald (1865 - 1933) who married noted designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868 - 1928). MacDonald was one of a group of artists known as the 'Glasgow Girls'. Along with her sister, Mackintosh and her husband Herbert MacNair (1868 - 1955), MacDonald became a prime exponent of the Art Nouveau style in Scotland.
