John Runciman

1744 - 1768

Painter. Born in Edinburgh, the younger brother of Alexander Runciman (1736-85), with whom he worked closely. He produced the remarkable work King Lear in the Storm (1767).

The brothers travelled to Italy in 1767, where John died of consumption in Naples. John was the more inventive of the brothers, but his early death meant he is the least remembered.
