Robert Dundas of Arniston

(2nd Lord Arniston)

1658 - 1726

Politician and lawyer. Born into an increasingly powerful legal family, Dundas was the son of Sir James Dundas (1620-79). He lived in the Netherlands until the Glorious Revolution of 1689, which deposed King James VII. Dundas returned to Scotland and served as the Member of Parliament for Midlothian (1689 - 1707) and Lord of Session from 1689-1726, both roles which had also been held by his father. He was predeceased by his eldest son and thus succeeded as by his second son, another Robert Dundas (1685 - 1753).
