Joanna Belfrage Picken


1798 - 1849

Minor poet. Born in Edinburgh, daughter of Ebenezer Picken, the 'Poet of Paisley' (1769 - 1816). Picken is known to have had poems published in Glasgow in 1828. She left for Canada in 1842 and settled in Montreal. Here she taught music and wrote under the pseudonym Alpha.

Her poems include An Auld Friend with a New Face.
