Nicol Williamson


1938 -

Stage and screen actor. Born in Hamilton (South Lanarkshire), William trained with the Royal Shakespeare Company before making his professional debut at the Dundee Repertory Theatre in 1960. In 1965, he won a Tony award for his performance in John Osborne's play Inadmissible Evidence. His widely-praised performance in Hamlet became a film in 1969. Other films include The Wilby Conspiracy (1975), Robin and Marian (1976), with Sean Connery (b. 1930) and Robert Shaw (1927-78), Black Widow (1987), The Exorcist III (1990) and The Wind in the Willows (1996). Williamson has crossed been British and American television, with his more notable work including Christopher Columbus (1985) and the title role in The Last Viceroy (1986).
