Dora Mina Erskine-Wemyss

1856 - 1894

Creator of the Wemyss School of Needlework. Born into a noble family, who occupied Wemyss Castle, Dora Wemyss set up the School of Needlework in 1877 to provide work for miner's daughters and took an active role as a designer and business manager. She married Lord Henry Grosvenor, son of the Duke of Westminster in 1887 and lived at Bulwich Park, Wansford, Northamptonshire. Their son, William, became the 3rd Duke of Westminster.

She died at the early age of 38.
