Robert (Bob) Ferguson

1848 - 1915

Golf champion. Born in Musselburgh, where he learned his golf and became a caddie, Ferguson won his first major tournament at the age of eighteen on Leith Links (1866). He won three Open Championships; at Musselburgh (1880), Prestwick (1881) and St Andrews (1882). Illness cut short his playing career, but he was later appointed custodian of the Musselburgh Links. He is remembered by marble fountain located next to the links.
