Overview of Hamish Stuart

Musician. Born in Glasgow, Stuart found success as vocalist and playing guitar in the rhythm and blues group Average White Band. The band formed in 1972 in London (England) featuring Roger Ball (b.1944), Malcolm "Mollie" Duncan (b.1945), Alan Gorrie (b.1946), Robbie McIntosh (1950-74), Owen "Onnie" McIntyre (b.1945) and Canadian Mike Rosen. Stuart replaced Rosen before the band moved to the USA.

Their best known success came quickly; AWB released in 1974, referred to as the White Album thanks to its cover-art, was a hit both in the US and Britain. Other hits included Cut the Cake (1975), Soul Searching (1976), Person to Person (1976), Benny and Us (1977), Feel No Fret (1979), Shine (1980) and Cupid's in Fashion (1982). The band split up in 1983, only to re-group in 1989 with a different line-up which did not include Stuart. Stuart was unavailable having joined Paul McCartney's band and contributed to their successful album Flowers In The Dirt (1989). He went on to tour with McCartney for many years before forming his own band. Stuart also recorded as Easy Pieces with Gorrie and the English drummer Steve Ferrone who had joined the Average White Band after the death of Robbie McIntosh.
