Robert Alexander


1840 - 1923

Painter. Born in Ayrshire, Alexander settled in Edinburgh where he gained a reputation for painting domestic and farm animals, particularly portraits of dogs and horses. He travelled to Tangiers with his son Edwin Alexander (1870 - 1926), the noted watercolourist Joseph Crawhall (1861 - 1913) and Pollok Nisbet (1848 - 1922).

He died in Edinburgh.
