Alexander D. Robertson

1807 - 1886

Artist and art teacher. Based in Glasgow, Robertson worked in watercolour, oil and charcoal, producing both portraits and landscapes. He is noted for his watercolour views of the city but perhaps best known as a teacher of art, with his most successful pupil perhaps James Paterson (1854 - 1932). He taught at the Andersonian Institution (1843-5) and the Glasgow School of Art (1846-8).
