Horticulturist and plant-hunter. The son of another well-known plant-hunter Euan Cox (1893 - 1977) who had brought rhododendrons back from Burma and began planting them at his home, Glendoick House, Peter Cox continued his father's work, creating the Glendoick Gardens Nursery in 1953. He travelled to Asia on plant-hunting expeditions and, with his wife, opened Glendoick Garden Centre in 1973. Regarded as the world's greatest authority on rhododendrons, Cox has published twelve books on the species. His work has been recognised through the award of the Royal Horticultural Society's Victoria Medal of Honour (1992), together with the Scottish Horticultural Medal, the Gold Medal of the American Rhododendron Society and the award of an honorary degree by the University of St. Andrews in 2005.
