Matthew Dalziel


1957 -

Artist. Born in Irvine (North Ayrshire), Dalziel trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, Gwent College (Wales) and Glasgow School of Art, where he studied sculpture and fine art photography. Since 1993, Dalziel has collaborated with Louise Scullion (b.1966) from a studio based in the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art (University of Dundee) to create artworks in photography, video, sound and sculpture that explore ecological subjects. The pair also lecture in the university.

Dalziel and Scullion have exhibited internationally. Their commissions include The Horn (1997), which forms part of the M8 artworks project, Modern Nature (2000) on Elrick Hill (Aberdeen), The Ontological Garden (2003) for the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, One Minute (2005) a film-work produced for the opening of Perth Concert Hall and More Than Us (2007) for Great Glen House in Inverness, together with works for Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, the Science Museum, Sadler's Wells Theatre and Heathrow Airport in London. Awards include the Henry Moore Foundation Award (2001) and the Saltire Award for Art in Architecture (2005 and 2007).
