Karen Gillan


1987 -

Actress, who gained fame as Dr Who's assistant. Born in Inverness, Gillan was educated at Charleston Academy in the city. She went on to train in acting at Telford College in Edinburgh, before attending the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. Gillan has worked as a model and appeared in minor roles on television, including the dramatisation of Ian Rankin's Rebus (2006) for STV and The Kevin Bishop Show for Channel 4, before securing the role of Amy Pond in the long-running Dr Who sci-fi series for the BBC.
