Grand Prix racing driver. Born in Dumfries, the son of a haulage contractor from Twynholm, where Coulthard was brought up. He was educated at the primary school there and then Kirkcudbright Academy. He started his racing career in go-karting at the age of eleven, becoming Scottish Junior Karting Champion. He moved up through Formula Ford and Formula 3, to become a Formula 1 driver in 1994. In the same year he was recognised as Scottish Sports Personality of the Year. Coulthard recorded six wins for the McLaren team between 1994 and 1999 and now lives in Monte Carlo.
A museum in his honour was opened in Twynholm by his father in 1999.
