Craig MacLean


1971 -

Cyclist. Born in Grantown on Spey, MacLean first represented Scotland in BMX racing in 1986. He went on to win silver medal in World Championship Olympic Sprint event in 1999 with Jason Queally and Chris Hoy. MacLean represented Britain in the Olympic Games in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004) Olympic Games and also took part in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester (2002) and Melbourne (2006). Retiring in 2007, he came back to act as tandem pilot for blind athlete Anthony Kappes in the Paralympics of 2012, winning a gold medal. He has also worked as a commentator for the BBC.

The Craig MacLean Leisure Centre in Grantown on Spey is named in his honour and he was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List of 2013. He now lives in Wilmslow (Cheshire, England).
