Karen Dunbar


1971 -

Comedienne and actress. Born in Glasgow, but raised in Ayr, where she attended Ayr Academy, Dunbar has no formal training in acting yet has become acknowledged for her comedy and as a serious actress. She is a pantomime regular and has appeared at comedy festivals including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. She came to public attention on television in Chewin' the Fat, with Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, and The Karen Dunbar Show, both for BBC Scotland, and also regularly stars on BBC Radio Scotland. More serious performances have come at Oran Mor in Glasgow, the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh and the National Theatre in London. Dunbar was compère and sang in the Opening Ceremony for the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.
