Euan Burton


1979 -

Judo champion. Born in Ascot (Berkshire, England), Burton was educated at Pencaitland Primary School, Ross High School (Tranent) and the University of Edinburgh, although without graduating. He took bronze medals in the World Judo Championships of 2007 and 2010, but faced disappointment in the London Olympics of 2012. Burton was chosen to carry the flag of the Scottish Team during the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he brought his career to a close with a gold medal in the 100kg Judo event at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. Burton was presented with the flag by Sir Chris Hoy (b.1976), the Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist. Burton coaches at the National Judo Training Centre at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena at Ratho.
