Naval officer. Born in Lanton in the Scottish Borders, the son of an army officer, Fasson was educated at Jedburgh Grammar School. He joined the Royal Navy in 1930 and served on several ships before joining the destroyer HMS Petard in 1942 as First Lieutenant. His ship was one of a flotilla which attacked and badly damaged the German submarine U-559 in the Mediterranean on 30th October 1942. Fasson entered the submarine with two of his men and succeeded in recovering codebooks which allowed British scientists to break the Naval Enigma codes. As they continued searching, the U-boat sank drowning Fasson and Able Seaman Grazier. Both were posthumously awarded the George Cross and Fasson is remembered by a memorial in Bedrule Parish Church and a display in the British Legion Club in Jedburgh. His George Cross is now held by the National War Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
