Walter Newall


1780 - 1863

Architect. Born at New Abbey (Dumfries and Galloway), Newall was responsible for several public buildings in Dumfries, together with country houses and churches in the surrounding area. His works include Moat Brae House (1823), Dumfries Assembly Rooms (1825), Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura (1836), Moffat Town Hall and Southerness Lighthouse (1843).

He lies buried in St. Michael's Churchyard in Dumfries.
