Samuel (Sam) Heughan


1980 -

Actor. Born in Balmaclellan (Dumfries and Galloway), where he was raised by his mother, Heughan was educated at Kells Primary School in nearby New Galloway and then in Edinburgh at the James Gillespie's High School and the Rudolph Steiner School. He trained as an actor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, graduating in 2003.

An early appearance in a new play Outlying Islands which began in the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, and then moved to London brought Heughan a nomination for a Laurence Oliver Award. He also appeared on television in Island at War (2004), River City (2005) and Doctors (2009), but his most notable role is as Jamie Fraser in the Outlander historical fantasy adventure series (from 2014).

Heughan served as Grand Marshal of the New York Tartan Day Parade in 2016.
