Patrick Neill Fraser


1830 - 1905

Horticulturalist and printer. Born in Edinburgh, he gained his name from his father's business partner and mentor Dr. Patrick Neill
(1776 - 1851) whose printing company he was to inherit on Neill's death. He also acquired Neill's interest in horticulture and became an expert in ferns, polyanthus and alpine plants. The garden at his home, Rockville (Murrayfield), gained considerable acclaim. He served as Treasurer of the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society and was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Royal Scottish Geographical Society. He died in Edinburgh and lies buried in Dean Cemetery. His daughter was suffragist Margaret Neill Fraser (1880 - 1916).
