Christine Grahame

1944 -

Politician. Although born in England, Grahame was raised in Edinburgh, where she was educated at Boroughmuir High School, the University of Edinburgh and Moray House College of Education. She became an English teacher at schools in Fife and Dumfries and Galloway. Grahame returned to the University of Edinburgh once again as a mature student to study law and went on to work as a solicitor. Changing career once again, she was elected as a 'list' Member of the Scottish Parliament for the South of Scotland region in 1999, representing the Scottish National Party. In 2011, she was elected as MSP for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale. Grahame served as Convener of the Justice Committee (2001-03) and Deputy Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament (2016-21). She continues to live in Edinburgh. In 2022, at the age of 77, she became the oldest-ever MSP.
