Kayus Bankole


1987 -

Musician and singer. Born in Edinburgh to Nigerian parents, Bankole several years living in the USA and Nigeria before moving back to Edimburgh in his teens. He completed his education at Boroughmuir High School, where he met Ally Massaquoi (b. 1987). At the age of fourteen, the pair became friends with Graham Hastings (b. 1987) and soon founded the band Young Fathers. They have gone on to win the Scottish Album of the Year Award twice (2013 and 2018), together with a Mercury prize in 2014. Their albums include Dead (2013), Cocoa Sugar (2018) and Heavy Heavy (2023). Several of their tracks feature on the soundtrack of the film T2 Trainspotting, based on Irving Welsh's novel.
