Graham (G) Hastings


1987 -

Musician. Hastings was born and raised in Drylaw in N Edinburgh. At the age of fourteen, Hastings met Ally Massaquoi (b. 1987) and Kayus Bankole (b. 1987) dancing in a hip-hop club and soon after they founded the band Young Fathers. Hastings was the principal musician, writing and producing much of their music. The band has gone on to win the Scottish Album of the Year Award twice (2013 and 2018), together with a Mercury prize in 2014. Their albums include Dead (2013), Cocoa Sugar (2018) and Heavy Heavy (2023). Young Fathers appeared at the Glastonbury Festival in 2014 and the Edinburgh International Festival in 2016 and several of their tracks feature on the soundtrack of the film T2 Trainspotting, based on Irving Welsh's novel.
