Queen Consort of the United Kingdom, wife of King Charles III. Born in London, the oldest daughter of a military officer, Camilla was educated in East Sussex, London and Switzerland. In 1973, she married Andrew Parker Bowles, an Officer in the Household Cavalry. The couple had two children. King Charles (then Prince of Wales) has met Camilla in the early 1970s but they again became close in 1980, not long before he married Lady Diana Spencer. The details of their ensuing affair brought scandal and led to the separation, in 1992, of Charles and Diana, who notably referred to "having three people in her marriage". Camilla also divorced and the couple became established in the public eye during the later 1990s. They married in 2005, a process which had taken much negotiation given that both parties had been divorced, with Camilla becoming known as the Duchess of Cornwall, and not using the title Princess of Wales out of respect to Diana. In Scotland she was known as the Duchess of Rothesay. In the succeeding years she was accepted into formal Royal circles, admitted to the Royal Family Order of Elizabeth II in 2007, the Royal Victorian Order (2012), a member of the Privy Council (2016) and the Order of the Garter (2022). In 2022, Queen Elizabeth made clear that she wished Camilla to be known as Queen Consort following Charles' accession to the throne. This duly happened later the same year, with Camilla admitted to the Order of the Thistle in 2023.
Camilla has served as Patron of Maggie's Cancer Care Centres, was appointed Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen in 2013, is an honorary member of Ballater Women's Institute and the Upper Deeside Art Society, and supports many charities across Scotland.
