Hope Montagu Douglas Scott 1897 - 1989 Patron of the Arts. Born near Balerno, a daughter of the Younger family of brewers, she lived in the Scottish Borders. She married a grandson of Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, the 5th Duke of Buccleuch (1806 - 84), and was a close friend of the artist William Johnstone (1897 - 1981). When she died her collection of paintings was bequeathed to the University of Edinburgh and is now on show in the Talbot Rice Gallery.
