John Ross

Provost of Aberdeen. A successful merchant in Aberdeen, who rose to become Provost of the city in 1710. Ross acquired the lands of Arnage in the early 18th C. He is best remembered today for his house which still stands in Ship Row. Originally built in 1593, it was purchased by Ross in 1702.

Ross' ships traded around the North Sea and it was during one such trip that he died in Amsterdam.
