James Logie Robertson


(Hugh Haliburton)

1846 - 1922

Minor poet. Born in Milnathort, Robertson was educated at Orwell Parish School and the University of Edinburgh. He began a teaching career at Heriot's Hospital before joining the staff of the Edinburgh Ladies College, where he taught from 1876 to 1913. He was the author of the Ochil Idylls (1891) and other works written under the pen name Hugh Haliburton. Robertson also edited collections of poetry written by Robert Burns (1759-96), Allan Ramsay (1686 - 1758), Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832) and James Thomson (1700 - 1748).

He died in Edinburgh and lies buried in Morningside Cemetery.
