Dundonald

A sizeable village located towards the north of South Ayrshire Council Area, Dundonald lies 4 miles (6.5 km) northeast of Troon and a similar distance west of Kilmarnock. Once associated with weaving and coal-mining, it has more recently been associated with nylon manufacture, quarrying and food distribution. The most prominent feature is the 14th-century Dundonald Castle which stands on a round hill to the west of the village. Dundonald Camp, a former military base, survives as a settlement 2 miles (3 km) to the west.
